Today I decided to work on becoming a morning person.

Usually I wake up after a long fight with my bed.  I hit the snooze button multiple times (on multiple alarms I have set.)  I glance down and notice my cat is still cuddled up to me and is fast asleep.  This only adds to the difficulty of planting my feet on the floor and getting up.

So how am I going to turn this night owl into the early bird?  A lot of worms...

No but really I have made a plan to help me hopefully succeed at waking up and not hating it so much.

Step one
It all is going to begin at night.

As of now I have an idea of when I should go to bed but technology, New Girl and things I didn't get to in my day keep me up and I can easily blow past the bed time idea.  I have set a reasonable time for me to stop responding to other night dwellers, as well as mindless web surfing. It will be there when I wake up and if it isn't....  Did I really need to read that article on Disney that I knew most of the content anyways?

I am going to start by moving my bed time back by 15 minutes.  Enough time that my body won't go 'HEY WHY ARE WE IN BED TWO HOURS EARLY?! AHHH BURST OF ENERGY YOU FOOL!' but enough time to start making it to bed at a more "reasonable" time.

Goal time: 11:30 pm
Currently I go to bed around midnight, one oh shoot how did it get to be 2 am?....shuffle things around and finally fall asleep.

Step two
Plan ahead.

How many outfits do I need to go through the next day?  The answer should be one.  As a girl we all know this isn't the realistic answer but it is the logical one.  What am I going to be doing tomorrow and what outfit will give me success in my day?  I am guilty of having a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear.... that is for another blog and another goal to tackle.  Planning ahead my outfit will give me extra time in the morning to make a healthy meal to start me off right.  Which leads to the next step...

Step Three

Reward yourself with a great kickstart to the day: BREAKFAST

I have never been a breakfast person.  Not being a morning person, breakfast usually fell around lunch time.  So I always called it lunch.  Just recently with the start of my new job and earlier hours of working; I need breakfast.  If I pass up on eating before work I am starving the whole time I am at the office and my snack drawer becomes the most frequented place I visit for the day.

It doesn't take long to fix a healthy meal that will help feed my body for the rest of the day. Or at least until I crack open the snack drawer.

I have been surfing for some quick easy balanced breakfasts to help me on this journey.  I decided to stick to a protein, colorful fruit/veggie and whole grain.  Light enough to let my stomach slowly wake up but with enough substance I won't get to the office and go hey.... I am starving.

And how are you going to fix breakfast if you don't give yourself enough time?

Step Four

Peeling the band-aid off

I love to spend copious amounts of time in bed.  I have a great relationship with my bed. It is a great comfort but I need to start spending less time here.

Don't cave back into sleeping after waking up. You set those alarms for a reason.  Maybe you woke up before the alarm.  Yes it is okay to go back to sleep till it goes off but don't fall into those old habits.  I find that when I wake up before my alarm it is so much easier to get out of bed!

Wake up, get out of bed, fix breakfast and relax in a new surrounding while you eat.

They say a new habbit takes 21 days to plant its roots... SO here goes to planting some deep roots.
